Boca Chica site now official site of Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch pad

HARLINGEN – Amid Gov. Rick Perry’s offering of $15.3 million in state incentives to land Elon Musk’s SpaceX at Boca Chica Beach, Musk expressed excitement at settling in Cameron County.

“SpaceX is excited to expand our work in Texas with the world’s first commercial launch complex designed specifically for orbital missions,” Musk said in a statement included in Perry’s written announcement.

“We appreciate the support of Gov. Perry and numerous other federal, state and local officials who have partnered with us to make this vision a reality,” Musk said.

“In addition to creating hundreds of high-tech jobs for the Texas workforce, this site will inspire students, expand the supplier base and attract tourists to the South Texas area,” Musk said.

Perry said the $85 million project would create 300 jobs.

Perry announced SpaceX’s imminent arrival contingent on final approval of local agreements and receipt of additional required permits.
